Hi I was looking and usb controller cards for no real purpose :P and noticed that lots of them have one internal usb port. What exactly are these for :S
Thanks :P

When you have a case with front USB ports built into it, you have to connect the case ports to the cards internal USB port.

Thing is though, I've never used an internal port since the card readers and the like all tend to have a motherboard type usb connector on the other end (sensibly). Has anyone here actually used one?

I've got a usb stick plugged into a "external usb socket to motherboard usb header" cable sat on the base of a computer running ubuntu at present, does that count? It would be plugged into the inward facing socket from one of these cards, if I had one of these cards.

Yeah you could use the USB stick inside the PC as a boot drive for a live OS if you wanted.

The computer is running headless under my desk, the fewer cables coming out (one power lead, one ethernet) the less likely I am to damage it by inadvertently kicking it. It would work just the same using an external one, but I'd be more likely to knock the usb stick out while it's running causing unnecessary hassle.

It's a full install rather than a live usb stick, but much the same idea. Sits there running samba most of the time.
