Got a pc running XPpro and everytime I insert a usb item it crashes... printer, camera, mp3, mem stick... Either directly in the PC, or through a hub.

Dont seem to have any viruses - running AVG, zonealarm, spybot... Is it possible to do a repair, as wiping will mean a lot of work!!

Cheers

Not really thought about that.. pc/usb runs fine if you boot with the usb device inserted, then download pics from mem stick, or print from printer... then switch off pc and remove device.. If you insert the usb/remove usb device while the pc is running.. crash!!

Im going to try a new slice of ram tonight and see what happens... I've also got twin mirror raid h/discs and it usually needs to rebuild one after a usb crash, so maybe a disc problem?

But as I said the pc will run all day if you dont insert or remove a usb device while the pc is on.. Also might try deleting all the usb devices and reinstalling them?

i have this problem too now, but the weirdest thing is if i insert a game controller to the usb then that causes no problems. when i inset usb mem stick or a wireless usb dongle it crashes.
psu = seasonic s12 600w
ram = 2 gig g skill zx
mobo = sapphire gruper pure innovation.

yan, did u manage to fix your problem?

I'd start looking at drivers for the USB controller.

Got a link to the motherboard, on the manfacturer's site?

the usb have been working fine, its just today that its started to go funny. can it still be driver problem?

the pc also freezes during other operations too, like when i tried to install a microsoft .net update. also when i turn it on it sometime freezes at the window xp splash screen.
im starting to think its a mobo problem as this mobo have had quite a few RMAs from other users.
