I have an issue whereby upon getting into Windows 7, USB devices may or may not work. The issue first arose when switching from my old Gigabyte X58 motherboard to my current Asus X58. I also switched to a new PSU, SSD and graphics cards at this point.
It is normally always my G15 which fails to operate. It used to just be the G keys which are inoperative but now the keyboard itself doesn't work most times on boot up. The built-in LCD screen always works to a degree, but some applets fail to load as they don't recognise the keyboard. Reinstalling the software will get it all working (except for some applets not working) until the computer is restarted, then it's back to how it was.
My Flexiglow Cyber Snipa FPS pad used to always be the culprit. In addition to not operating, the LED light would be flickering. This would suggest it was not getting the required voltage. Since moving it to a different USB socket, it works most/all of the time now.
My Logitech G9X mouse works nearly all of the time, but a couple of times it didn't initiate in Windows.
My G15 keyboard always works 100% of the time in the BIOS and all stages before Windows startup.
Am already using the latest official BIOS. Am going to try a reflash after completing this post.
My initial thought was a potential conflict of the Intel chipset drivers. Both motherboards are X58s but their layout and features differ slightly. Have tried installing the ones from the Asus support page but it doesn't help.
Have tried replacing the power cable and using a different socket. Although that has now been ruled out as the cause, sometimes switching it off/unplugging it at the wall can help temporarily.
Have tried running default settings in the BIOS but that doesn't help either. Have played about with just about every setting that could be related but nothing has been a complete solution. Turning off features can help but not always and I need these features anyway.
All in all, it seems to be that the USB devices are not getting enough power. Considering everything I have tried, it does look as though the motherboard might be defective. Going to try a BIOS reflash now but does anybody have any other suggestions before I RMA it?
