USB disconnection issue.

I recently built a new pc from individual products bought online consisting of an msi z170 gaming m5 motherboard fitted with an intel core i7 6700 processor, phanteks case and an evga super nova 850 watt gold power supply. I managed to get the rig up and running fairly quickly after some issues with memory, and it ran OK for a short time. Then I kept getting usb problems - my logitech unified receiver kept disconnecting and automatically reconnecting (sometimes it didn't though) and I obviously suspected a problem with the receiver ; it finally gave up the ghost and luckily I had a replacement at hand. That ran OK for a while before the same disconnection issues, and by this time the on-board graphics began to seriously play up (temporary but frequent blank/black screen) , finally resulting in a code 99 error and failure to boot.
Suspecting a faulty motherboard it was sent back (bought from Amazon) for a replacement but this time I opted for a gigabyte z170x-ud3 which I was familiar with (being present on another machine). However, after a short time running, the usb began playing up as before. Obviously it was not the motherboard that was faulty so I suspected the psu may be causing the problem and swapped it for a unit I trusted to work. On the first start up everything ran smoothly but the next day the usb issue surfaced again!
The only items I have not swapped yet are the case and the processor - they are next on the list.
Has anyone any idea what could be causing this problem? It is driving me crazy !!
