I've had a bit of trouble with them in the past, so would like to ask... What's the best USB dongle in terms of connectivity and reliability?

I'm currently using powerline but they drop out a lot. Actually, if powerline is the better solution then could someone suggest a reliable model?

Thanks in advance. :)

By USB dongle do you mean Wi-Fi?
Is this to a desktop computer? If it is the most reliable solution is wired.
What powerline adapters do you have currently? If its just for internet then they should be ok. You're never going to get that great speed through them.

You'd be better at rectifying the powerline adapters if at all possible and trying to shorten the cable length between them or finding somewhere they do work well and then plugging in an access point. I got the cheapest and nastiest TP-Link ones I could find. They're pretty awful and get like 11Mbps with frequent drops from just the living room to kitchen but it's probably going through the consumer unit. Once they're on the same ring circuit they do pretty well at around 70Mbps with no drops.

But if you do want a decent USB adapter then look at an Alfa branded one. £20 will get you a decent enough one but the AC versions will cost quite a bit more. There're also fakes around so buy from a reputable source.

I know many get tired of me suggesting this, but just hardwire the place.

Perfect connection, full speed, 100% reliable.

Ask an electrician friend for help.

I am an electrician. :p

I need to go external with it which is why I've been put off, but I think you're right it'll be the best option in the long run.
