Hi all

I have a USB pendrive that is no longer read by my pc, ie when I plug it in it does not detect it. Is there anyway to get the data off it? Google is not proving very helpful as its just providing hundreds of links to data recovery software for if you have accidentally deleted files.

Cheers

Id prepare for the worst, mine did this (caused by plugging it into the computer and the computer restarted ) and was completly dead.

I may be proved wrong though.

i had that exact problem with a generic pen drive. Managed to track down the manufacturer and persuaded them to take a look at it. They said they'd try to recover the data, but ended up sending me a new one.

So depending on the manufacturer, you could try and see if they'll recover it, but its not looking likely

I have tried it in 4 different computers so far and it almost worked in 1 of them, I got the new usb device connected for a split second then it disappeared. I'm fairly sure the problem is with the usb connector and not the data/stick having corrupted or died. I'm wondering if there is some bodge way to repair it or wire it up somehow. I just want the files off the stick I don't care if I ruin the device in the process. I'm not bothered about getting a new one either as its out of warranty and it was crap anyway.

I once had to crack the case off as one of the pins coming out the back of the usb plug had come loose from the PCB. Solderd it back down took the data off then binned it.

Just checked for the invoice to see if it was still in its 1 year warranty and the date of purchase was the 16/6/09. Gutted! I have sent an email to the manufacturer on the off chance they can recover the data. In the mean time I'm considering pulling it apart to see if any of the contacts can be repaired.
