hi guys, just got new hard drive since old one went bust, set up fine and booted winidows ok.
however......
none of the usb devices are working (mouse, external hard drive, wireless router)
im assuming this means that the usb drivers went wrong in windows installatipon. is there any way to sort this out without reinstalling windows? could i just repair the installation?
cheers

theres the problem, cant get online without my wireless usb router. also cant download it onto another laptop then transfer via a usb hard drive. could it be on the mobo's driver CD? i just assumed it would be a windows issue not a mobo issue?

sorry should have said. its XP service pack 2.
theres no Universal Serial Bus Controllers thing in the device manager. no usb thing of any kind. so we thinking windows reinstall?
cant get online to update or download. cant transfer via hard drive. tried using mobo's cd.
anyone know if i could do it via the recovery console? i dont know the command?
cheers

oh and i know the cd's fine, have used it before on another rig. so the files arent missing from the CD itself, im thinkin just the installation. sorry guys im jsut being lazy trying to avoid another dull 2 hours watchin it install. any last ideas before i go ahead?
much appreciated

and its not on the mobo cd. just browsed around and it has a file on usb2.0, but says that as microsoft gives it, they dont. go to website blah blah blah.

its an abit ip35e. strange thing is system worked fine when i first built it with another hard drive. then that went bust (was salvaged from old rig) so i only just put in the new one and installed windows again. the only thing thats changed is the hard drive, and as i cant see that affecting the drivers the only thing i can see it being is an installation problem.
not sure about the bios, although i havent changed anything so i dunno how they would have come to be turned off. where exactly would i look to check they're on? im reinstalling windows now without formatting the hard drive so hopefully this will work. if not ill try formatting and starting from scratch (a royal pain).
thanks for the help tho, and just point me in the right direction of the usb bios?

when he says ip35e constantly rebooting? mine double boots on start up but i asked around here and someone posted a link saying that it was a bios issue that could be resolved with a beta bios. anyway its not of great importance apart from maybe frying components in the long term due to the double power surge. is this what hes talking about?
however the whole 'missing a usb' thing in bios sounds promising. thanks for all the help guys. i jsut cant work out why everything was fine with the old hard drive. trying to repair windows now.......c if that helps

no nothing in device manager on usb. my rigs formatting at the moment so i cant check what is there, but it seemed much smaller than usual, like there may be a few things missing? cheers for the link i'll have a look (and i would change the bios if i could get online lol).
i also found a link with a usb2.0 driver download, i thought prehaps i could download it on another system, burn it to a cd and then run the cd in my new rig? an option if reformatting fails i thought?

hmmm, link seems related but as i cant unistall any usb devices since theyre not there at all im still left with the problem. hopefully this format and reinstal will work, will let u guys know. as always thanks for the help, where would we be without OC

still no joy

right, have reformated and reinstalled windows. still no joy.

any ideas????

ive installed all mobo drivers. all graphics drivers. windows has been installed twice. but there is no usb bit in the device manager!

JUST A THOUGHT!
when i installed the new hard drive i had a bit of work gettin it in. possible that something came loose. what could come loose that would make the mobo not detect any of the usb slots???

sorry i dont understand. USB key? USB bootable?

had a check inside, dont think its anything ive broken. it all makes no sense!!!

everything works fine, USB included with a crappy IDE 80gb hard drive. Buy a new 160GB SATA and install windows, suddenly the USB controller disappears from device manager.

please guys, im losing the will to live here. lol

Nothing in Bios about USB whatsoever. But i dont think its the board anyway. Its worked fine before, just with a different hard drive.

Same system apart from that, same windows CD.
Only change is an IDE HD to a SATA HD.

Ive formatted and reinstalled windows twice now, still no solution. Why would USB be missing from the device manager?

The bios does have an option of booting from USB if that helfs.

One more thing. When i plug a wireless routed into the USB port, it does get power to the router. So the USB ports are working on some level. They're just not recognised at all from windows.

Its nothing to do with installing a third party SCIS or Raid driver is it? prompts at the very start of windows installation, and the mobo manual sayts it has a "intel matrix storage manager' that provudes functionality for the on chip SATA controller once the Raid functions enabled in Bios. I have no idea what this means. ?????
