I'm looking to extend a USB connection about 5m from the TV to my seat. It will plug in to a USB 3 port but ideally I'd like it to be a USB 2 cable. I'll have a hub with keyboard and mouse plugged in.

Anyone have a similar setup or know of a good quality cable/solution?

Ive got a similar setup, using a 5m extension cable picked up from asda. Think it was around £5. Ive got a hub connected at the other end with a variety of peripherals.

You can do this, however the limit of USB is around 5m, so unless you're using a powered HUB on the end of the 5m cable, I wouldn't recommend it.

I'd just use a wireless option.

Well i'm not replacing all my kit just for the sake of going wireless, I'm surprised Razer or someone doesn't market a long usb cable...

There are several makers that manufacture active usb cables. The one I got was in Asda and they also sold a 10m one. Active cables are effectively 1 port hubs and regenerate the signal.

You can also get powered versions to ensure that the full 500ma power signal is not degraded. If the quality of the cable is good enough you can run these in sequence to a distance of 25m with no signal loss. You can even alternate between 5m active and 5m normal cables to achieve the distance. Sorry spelling etc is a mess. Doing this one handed as I've bust my hand and cant be bothered correcting as I go.

Just google active usb extension as I don't want to advertise alternate stores.
