I've started doing a bit of DJing at weddings using a laptop and it has been suggested that I may need an external soundcard in order to send the signal to the sound desk whilst being able to listen to the upcoming track. Can anyone please advise me on this:confused:

A ESI MAYA44 USB will allow you to do what you want without spending big money. They're about £60 and I've one in the passed. If you want a bit more advanced then you're looking at £150+

How much were you looking at spending?

Things can start to get pricey depending on what you need from this. Before I got my Mackie I had a Motu 828mk2. If you can stretch then something like this would be ideal. You wouldn't even need the mixing desk. It functions as a standalone digital mixer as well as sound card so it's ideal for taking to gigs with or without a pc.

As I said though it all depends on what you want from it i.e. number of ins/outs, type of connections, fuctions, quality etc.

The desk will already be there as this will be done as part of a band set up. I just need someway in which I can cue up and listen to a song as another is playing. I'm using virtual dj if this is any help

I haven't used Virtual DJ so am not sure exactly how it works...I use Final Scratch when I'm playing any digital media.

From what you've described so far though it might be better for you to get a simple all in one controller for your software. A controller should give you the ability to cue, monitor etc and would be far better suited to your needs.

Without actually having used that software it's hard for me to give any better advice there. Hopefully someone else here might use that package and be able to give you better advice.
