Hi everyone,

basically I'm working on someones laptop at the moment which is running XP MCE. For some strange reason it won't recognise any USB flash drives. The add new hardware wizard loads and just won't find the drivers for any flash drive. The laptop is made by Dell, and I'm afraid I can't think of the model!

Any ideas?

Cheers, James

Hey James,

Which flash drive is it also have you tried putting it in other ports.

The usb ports in question are they part of a dell media card as i have had problems with an asus media card which the drivers in questions are that of the media card and not the usb drive.

Check on dells website to see if there are laptop drivers.

Just a thought,

As far as I'm aware 3 three drives have been tried, mine is made by Integral, and I'm not sure about the others because the owners have tried them.

With my flash drive i have tried it in all USB ports and the result is exactly the same.

Yeh I will have a look on Dells website for USB drivers, but I know the ports are working correctly because things like Printers have been plugged in!!

Thanks

Well thats normally what I would have put it down to, but the fact that I'm using the drive right now and its working perfectly baffles me!

Any other thoughts?

Many Thanks

James

Well format it saving all your stuff and then try it, also search the makers of your flash drive see if there are drivers?

Just an idea...

Maybe start the pc with it in and see... It worked for em

Yeh thanks, I'm not going over there again til monday/tuesday so will give it a go then.

Thanks for all your help, James

I have a dell laptop and certain usb devices will not work with it.

Daughters mp3 player is found when you plug it in, but gives a message saying it has malfunctioned. Works fine on any other pc.
From what I have read it's a problem with dell laptops that certain usb devices just don't work.
