USB hub not supplying enough power....?

I bought a powered USB hub as I was finding my 'passive' one wasn't able to give power to all of my USB peripherals, even the ones like external hard drives that have their own independent power supplies. My powered hub is slightly better but I still don't seem to be able to use all of my peripherals through it.... Is there any reason for this? Do I need to get a better hub?

It's a 7 port hub, into which I plug:

  • Apple keyboard
  • iPhone data cable
  • External sound interface
  • Surround headphone transmitter
  • External hard drive (self-powered)

So I'm not even using all seven ports; I know this is a lot to plug into a single hub but remember that the sound interface, headphone transmitter and iPhone charger aren't all 'on' at the same time, and besides the hub has its own power supply so surely it's able to supply enough power??

Any tips?
