usb hub problems

I have a powered Belkin 7 port USB hub. This morning it reported my Ipod as an unknown device and tonight my Sennheisser headphones similarly Also the base of the hub seems quite hot. Is it telling me its dying?
 
mine did this but was fine when i didnt use the power pack... so i started to use lower powerd items in and it was fine
 
I tend to do the same with USB hubs, less problems that way..... stick the lower powered items in the hub and the more power hungry items directly in the PC.

Printers seem to be one of the most problematic USB devices in my experience...
