Have a quick question about USB on my laptop. Its a fairly old HP model and one of the two USB ports no longer works. I normally have a small USB mouse connected to the one that does but have to swap it out if i want to connect digital camera etc.

Would i be able to buy a 4 port hub and use them both at same time? Or would i get conflicts?

Also if i bought a 4 port hub would i be able to connect a wireless USB dongel and mouse at same time without issues?

I don't see why not. I've connected a 7-port Belkin USB 2.0 on a Toshiba Satellite A10, and it's currently running:

  • Wireless mouse
  • Wired USB keyboard
  • Microsoft USB headphones

Earlier in the day, it was also running an external HDD.

Be aware that some laptops don't have enough power to run additional USB devices from an unpowered hub. My Belkin has its own mains power cord, so it can run anything. But if you use one of those tiny "travel hubs" which just plug in the back, you could have problems when using devices that draw power.

Mouse + camera should be OK though.
