I am looking for some sort of usb psu which is small and descreet as i have a 2.5" hdd caddie to use with my dvd recorder which is not able to recieve enough power from the single usb port. The caddie itself has only a usb connection and no power but does have a usb lead with 2 connectors.I did think of getting a usb hub but want something smaller.

Can anyone recommend me some sort of thing to get over this problem?

if you don't want a hub the only solution i can see is to get a different caddy that has a power supply, but i suppose that would be as big as a hub too :(
HotDrive - Mobile 2.5" Hard Disk Enclosure

Also will one of those plug in the wall usb chargers do the job and does it matter how many mili amps it has?

i don`t think i have seen one of those
just check the power rating of the HDD then see what the power output of the usb power supply thingy is :)

Well i bought the 5V 1000mA USB MP3 Power Supply and it works great.I use it just to power up the drive and then the dvd recorder usb drive has enough power to run it from there.

Thanks for all the info. :)

i have a small question how do you get a dvd recorder into a 2.5" caddie?

a dvd itself is 4.8" in diameter.

that caddie must be a tardis inside.

or is it in fact a dvd recorder + a 2.5" caddie running of the same usb controller hence the power problem.

Unless i'm mistaken in which case heres a pre emp shocky face....

lol @ DR_D

You obviously misinterpreted my post,it is a standalone dvd recorder with a usb port to which the 2.5 caddie is connected to. :D
