USB/Infrared adapter software for media player etc

I've got a USB to IrDA (infra-red) adapter which I would like to use for control of videos played on the PC, with hopefully 'Windows Media Centre' using a universal remote control.
The only good new I've had so far is this USB/Irda adapter is known by XP/Vista

USB to iRDA = Sitecom (Sigma) USB-Irda Adapter CN-100v2

universal remote control = Kameleon 6int URC-8206

I've spent ages looking for software but the programs I've found so far don't work & only use a COM port not USB & the adapter is not found

There must be someone who controls 'Windows Media Centre' by remote.
Does anyone know anything about this subject or what software I could use?
