Bought a new keyboard (Merc Stealth) and having problems with it getting past bios with having it plugged into the motherboard's usb sockets. The keyboard works fine in windows, installs and works without a problem but with it plugged in when I turn the computer off and then on or restart it it will not get past bios and keeps restarting.

I have tried using a separate usb controller card and that worked a treat, got past bios and then usable in windows but my problem is that i am not able to enter my bios settings as i dont think the keyboard is seen untill windows os is running

Is it possible to have a keyboard working on a usb pci controller card that will work in bios?

Yeah I was thinking about using a ps2 adaptor, I tried enabling that keyborad USB legacey support in bios but with the keyboard plugged into the pci USB controller that did not work, I'll have to try the ps2 option then

I read on the steelseries website that the problem is with somthing to do with the voltage and that I should bump the USB speed in bios down from hispeed (480Mbs) to full speed (12Mbs) but I'm unsure how to do this!?

Surely this will have an impact on ALL your USB ports then ?

Ok mate had a quick look in my bios settings (BloodRage mobo) and found the setting in

USB Operation mode ... USB Device Setting

2 options: Hi speed or Full/low speed

My motherboard does not have that option, it does have the option to disable USB 2.0 controller though and just use USB 1.0 maybe?

Right...i disabled the USB 2.0 in my bios then loaded windows, i plugged the keyboard in all the back usb connections but windows did not see it, so i then plugged it into one of the front usb connection and windows recognised it and installed the drivers and it worked fine but i did not want the cable hanging over the front so i then plugged it into the USB 3.0 in the back of the computer and it loaded the drivers and worked!

I then restarted the computer and was able to enter bios and control it with the keyboard plugged into USB 3.0 but this is with USB 2.0 dissabled but this is no good as the front USB connections are running at USB 1.0 speed and the back USB connections dont work at all!

I tried enabling USB 2.0 and leaving the keyboard plugged into USB 3.0 slot and it's back to square one and would not get past bios or able to use keyboard to enter bios!

There is some sort of problem having USB 2.0 enabled and having this gay keyboard plugged in weather it's plugged into the USB 2.0 slots or not!

Have you the option to turn off boot from USB in bios ?

another suggestion I found is : Try changing your BIOS settings to "Normal boot" and not "Rapid/Fast boot ...

There appears to be quite a few people having boot probs mate (not that it helps you sry)
