The problem is the spacebar is not working on box but work on the laptop. So I broke out a ps/2 keyboard and it work.

I thought I had a corrupt driver in vista or something, but I have just gone to Windows 7 and its still not working.

I was thinking it could be the USB controller on the motherboard, sometimes / rarely my mouse freezes on boot as well, but I plug in out and it works.

Has anybody experienced this before?

Mobo: Asus p5kc
Keyboard: Saitek Cyborg

Cheers for any help.

I used to get this with an Asus P5K-E and it was the BIOS that was at fault. Until Asus released a fix, I had to set USB to "Fullspeed" in BIOS which effectively makes everything USB 1.

My advice would be to update your BIOS.

Agree. Also have a look in your bios for legacy USB support. I have seen a few boards act up with USB keyboards and mice... Always keep my trusty HP ps/2 set hidden away this, but motherboard makers are no longer making boards with ps/2 ports :(
