USB KVM won't work with Anker 6-in-1 hub

This is annoying me now that I've built a new desk and trying to keep everything minimal. I have a simple KVM switcher, usb for just mouse and keyboard. It switches HDMI as well but I don't use that because my work Macbook uses HDMI whereas I use DisplayPort on my PC.

But it's never worked with my slim Anker usb-c 6-in-1 hub that I bought. The mouse and keyboard just don't work when plugged into my Mac. They do when plugged straight into the Anker hub (not via the switcher) so it's definitely the switcher at fault. Any ideas why? The switcher works fine through my official Mac dongle, so I have to have both plugged in to work on my Macbook. Annoying :(

Is the switcher just a single port USB?
Keyboard and mouse in, two usb out. So I use it to switch between controlling my PC on switch 1 and my work MacBook on switch 2. It’s also has HDMi switching but I don’t use that

If the hub is unpowered my guess is that the overall resistance of the hub, switch and cables is too hig and that a powered hub might help. If it is powered however, then my guess would be that the switcher is giving you USB compliance issues (impedance out of the USB range) or again resistance.

Edit: stupid autocorrect...
