USB Memory Stick V USB External Hard Drive

Entirely depends on the quality of the USB 3 memory stick and whether the 'main system' has USB2 or 3.

Assuming it has USB2, if you buy a recent USB3 memory stick from a big brand then the memory stick would comfortably saturate the USB2 bandwidth, AND would have much faster random reads and writes than a HD.

Realistically, an SSD in a USB 3 enclosure via a USB 3.0 port :D. Have found some decently fast memory sticks but pricey as the GBs go up. I have a USB 3.0 stick that does about 50MB/sec write and 80MB/sec read on USB 3 but its only 64GB, USB 2.0 hdd should do about 30MB/sec usually and vastly better price per GB. All depends on the memory stick you get, i find most usb 3.0 ones don't do claimed speed and are no better than 2.0

wow nice! Cheers for the info :D

- Edit : Put an offer in, lets see what happens ;)
