Usb not working

I can say for the first time i am completely stumped on this problem. Its insane.
New mobo, (Msi 845gvm-v)
New cpu Socekt 478 Celeron D 2.6ghz
Fresh install of windows xp home, (sp2)
First thing i did was install msi live driver update
Installed bios update
Installed mobo drivers
Installed vga drivers

Intel(r) 82801db/dbm usb 2.0 enhanced controller - 24cd
Intel(r) 82801db/dbm usb universal host controller 24c2
Intel(r) 82801db/dbm usb universal host controller 24c7

these are present in my devices, yet no usb object will work in any of the ports.
I have checked the bios, and i have any and every possible usb related option set correctly.

So, correct fresh install of xp, correct fresh install of mobo drivers, yet nothing.

Also it wont recognise my onboard AC97 realtek sound device exists?
Is the mobo faulty?

Need desperate help here guys, any response welcome.

Ive searched so much, i even found a hotfix but nothing.

Weirdly my ipod charges when i plug it in. But my usb optical mouse will not light up.
Does this sound like a mobo problem, or a windows/driver problem?
 
Is there an option for USB mouse support in your BIOS? I think there is on mine.
 
there is a option for ps2 mouse support,
there is an option for usb 1.1 controllers too.
there is also an option for usb 2.0

i have mouse (which has nowt to do with it) enabled
1.1 enabled
2.0 auto (loads on plug and play of usb 2.0 device)

Nothing. nadda. no way jose
 
you might have friend your USB ports.... that prob the case if everything is showing up in device manager but nothing works when you plug it in... you might have plugged something in the wrong way and fried the ports... ive done it myself in the past..! or might just be faulty
 
i suppose it could be a possibility. I havent the foggiest what i could have plugged in backwards. Not like this is the first computer ive built, im not stupid enough to try jamming a usb into a com port or nothing.

Its a new mobo, however its ex stock as i dont live to close to many stores who sell 478 socket boards. I got this cheap, and am relucant to take it back, as i have before thinking it was faulty when it didnt boot into windows only to find the cpu had blown up also, when the old mobo when up in smoke. :(

Its a long story but this is my mums computer, and god i wish i didnt know enough for her to expect me to solve everything.
Bought this mobo, windows didnt load, got new celeron. everything fine except this problem.
Seeing as i dont have the parts to swap out, and i hate taking this to shops to be repaired, and get told im wrong, im in a bit of a pickle.

sometimes computers really annoy me.

no problem and thansk for the help, it always good to be comfirmed im not making a silly mistake. Something will help me solve it. Think im going to speak to an engineer at my local. Doubt he knows any more than i do :(

I know I'm being silly and basic again but it is the actual usb port of the mobo right? Not a case one that might be arsed already or might have been plugged into the mobo the wrong way? I say that because that could be a reason for it giving power yet not data (i.e the data cables not plugged right).

I'm probably being stupid but just checking :o :o

Nope fair enough asking. Its all 6 ports on the mobo, i have individually tested them all, but they are all out of action. I tested them all to see if it was a certain hub controller that wasnt working.
 
Ok took it back. They have diagnosed it as faulty.

Pretty much knew it was, as id done everything by the book.
Anyway thanks for any responses.
