USB or PCI wireless adapter?

lol, im a bit past "parents" :p

i don't really wanna run meters of cat5 in rented accomodation, as we cant attach it and nor do we wanna trip over it.

Slightly off topic but i've moved from a netgear usb wireless device to a pci device and the signal strength is terrible with constant drop outs. My pc is by my desk and i have a straight line of site to the router in the living room.

It seems with the netgear usb I can get a better signal but I get drop outs as it gets so hot and overheats.

The netgear signal looks ok with the netgear software but windows sees it as very low and drops out.

Think my question is why is my pci card signal so weak?

Yeah there is a reason why USB ones are so bad, they also use the CPU more than do onboard work and the aerials on USB ones are tiny (unless you have a linksysone...) compared to the PCI versions.

I think Linksys is the one at advantage for both PCI and USB here because they have big aerials that rarerly get a crud connection signal and are very stable without having to install any 3rd party software or drivers to manage the wifi connection so basically Windows manages it all.

My home network is all linksys though so maybe I am biased but I had belkin before and had endless problems...
