I would like to buy a cheap mini PC or something similar and connect 5 of my hard drives with all my photos and movies etc and use drivepool to protect my data with their raid type protection.

I know HDMI out would allow me to view my data on my tv's but cables are to bulky etc.

Is there any way PCI card or something that would allow USB out or something so I can view virtual drivepool with all my data on?

Any advice is appreciated

In my experience USB drives, or drives connected via USB fail a lot more often than internal drives, this has reduced with the advent of USB 3 and better quality controllers, but is still an issue I see quite often.

Why not look at something like a Qnap NAS device, these are great and seem to almost exactly meet your use case - they are effectively a mini PC designed for this.

Something like this maybe? Just an example (this one's a bit rich!)

Qnap and Synology have decent home orientated products in this space, that cost a bit less than the one I've linked to, but you get the idea
