USB/ PCIE wifi adapter

Hi folks,

I'm currently using powerline adapters to get internet to my bedroom PC. Running an ethernet cable isn't an option unfortunately (rented house and no spare ports on the router in any case). I get 30mb/s over the powerlines, but my phone can get 60mb/s over the 5g wifi sat right next to my PC, so I'd like to swap to wifi...bonus of getting an extra plug socket back.

I have tried a USB adapter (completely unbranded....found in the back of a dusty drawer) but only picked up 10mb/s ... I wonder if it's 2.4ghz only.

Does my phone test mean I should be able to get the same speed to my PC with a newer card/ adapter?
Would I be better with a PCIE wifi card? or a more modern USB wifi dongle? Any suggestions on features to look out for? I'll try and keep the budget as low as I can.

Motherboard is an Asus B450m-II - I have a GPU, but think there's room for an extra card too

Appreciate any advice
Thanks
