Hi guys!

Just reinstalled windows XP Professional (SP2) on a Dell Precision M90 laptop. However it won't recognise anything in the USB ports. I'm pretty sure its a driver issue. Under device manager it appears the 'Base System Device' has no installed drivers. Any idea how to fix that?

Thanks,

XP sp2 includes usb 2 drivers, anything before that can still cope with usb 1.

I wish you luck mate, that one could be difficult to fix

Give this a go

To resolve this problem, install Windows XP SP2, and then update the drivers for the USB devices that are connected to your computer. To update these drivers, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
Double-click the type of device that you want to update.
Double-click the specific device that you want to update.
Click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.
Follow the instructions in the Hardware Update Wizard.
Repeat steps 2 through 5 for each USB device.

Note You can also install Windows XP SP2, and then disconnect and reconnect the USB devices that are connected to your computer. By doing this, you start the Plug and Play utility. The Plug and Play utility updates the version numbers for the drivers.
