Hi,

Have noticed recently that all of my USB ports will randomly stop working and requires 2 or 3 reboots to work again.

I can plug either printer, USB pen drive, USB HDD and windows will not recognize either have being connected. Upon rebooting I have checked to see if either of the devices are detected in BIOS which none are showing. After 2/3 reboots the devices show in BIOS and windows, everything works ok.

Also I have a Xbox Wireless Adapter which worked perfect until I started having USB problems but now everytime I connect the adapter to my PC it shows as unrecognized in device manager with either code: 10 or 28.
Have tried unistalling the drivers and manually installing them along with windows automatically installing there own drivers. Also tried a clean windows 10 install. (Latest USB drivers from MSI)

Any advice please, my motherboard is a MSI X99a Krait Edition.

cheers.

I have had this issue before and i had to go into ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS - COMPUTER MANAGEMENT - DEVICE MANAGER - UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS

Then i right clicked and uninstalled others. Be warned that multiple reboots may be required for windows to install the drivers on boot for keyboard and mouse etc. You might have to change the port for the mouse and mess about a bit until it installs but this worked for me when certain devices would not work with certain USB ports.

What do you have plugged into the USB ports, any external hard drivers or anything? Maybe try uninstalling all drivers and just leave the mouse and keyboard plugged in for a while to see if they stop working again.

Also can you list your mother board or PC make/model in here and I would suggest looking on the website against the model to look for USB drivers to download and install for the mother board.

Did you try uninstalling every single USB driver in the computer management?

Maybe try uninistalking all again, then power off the PC unplug all devices and reconnect eacg device into a different port than it was in last time. Plug mouse and keyboard in for boot and when loaded into windows then start plugging all others in.

Let me know how you get on

Sorry just re-read and seen you have tried the motherboard fixes...

Have you checked that the USB devices in Computer Management are not set to be turned off by the PC to save power?

ok the last 2 days when turning my PC on for the first time I have noticed that windows is detecting new hardware and installing the drivers.

Have checked what new hardware is being detected and it is my USB devices. (k/b, mouse & capture card)

Not sure why it is recognizing as new hardware when the devices are already installed and latest drivers? (windows driver update is disabled too)

Any ideas please?

There's an application you can download called Device cleanup tool. Lets you remove old, non-present, unused or previous hardware devices from your machine.
Not sure if this will fix your USB problem but worth a try.

ok mate, just tried Device Cleanup Tool made no difference.

My PC won't boot with any USB device connected. Once into windows and USB devices connected I get "error code 43" & "error code 28" devices failed to start.

Just a couple of suggestions to try:

1. Disable FastBoot (in BIOS) if it's enabled.

2. Power Options > Advanced Settings > expand USB settings and USB selective suspend setting > Disabled.
