First post here but from surfing around it sounds like a lot of people know what they're doing so maybe someone can help...

Got an Ultima 8800 GTX from OcUK about 6 months ago, Abit AW9D MAX mobo, Vista Home Premium, amazing machine, all hunky dory until I tried syncing my iPhone just now via front USB port - noticed the optical mouse suddenly went dark, then noticed the usual blue glow of the Saitek keyboard had gone also. Turns out no joy from any USB port - initially got "USB device not recognised" when I tried any USB device in any port, now not even that, not a squib when I insert anything.

Reinstalled newest chipset drivers with no luck, have tried Vista repair, device manager says everything's working properly. Curiously I get brief flashes of light from the keyboard on booting, and from various usb sticks, but only a second or so, and Vista doesn't register them. So it seems to me there is power to the ports but for some reason Vista is clueless about PnP...

Hope I've given enough info... all ideas/suggestions gratefully received!

Try removing all your USB devices, go in to device manager and press the + on USB and uninstall each item then try rebooting your computer, see if that helps!

Thanks for that fobose, tried it but Vista seems to have a mind of its own and kept reinstalling all the usb root hubs before I could reboot!

Anyhow I think I just found the solution - as simple as pulling the plug out - read somewhere that depriving the comp of power for half an hour might work - and it has - for now...

Cheers
