usb ports..

i have a gigabyte ds4 and for some reason the external hard drives only see them as usb 1.0 ports instead of 2.0..

hardware check says there functioning correctly ...

any ideas please.
 
Are the external hard drives USB2.0 devices? If they're old USB1.x then that's the reason.

Otherwise, update chipset and USB controller drivers. If that doesn't work, flash the BIOS to the latest version.
 
Have you tried using other USB ports? Sometimes the controller can play up. If you've only just installed the latest chipset/controller/mass storage drivers, try rebooting.
 
odd..even though both devices say it will perform faster if plugged into a usb 2.0 port one is running at usb 2.0 and one isn,t....
