When I plug in a device into a USB port it comes with the message device could be faster if plugged into a high speed USB port.

Question is:

Are the USB ports at the front of your case (connected to the mobo through a wire) slower than the ones directly on your mobo at the rear of your machine?

Thanks,

OneTime

That will depend on your machine. The connectors from the motherboard at the back of the machine should be the same as the front panel, but you may have a USB2 PCI card in the machine with a newer controller that can provide fast USB ports. Something like this.

Machine specs inc mobo?

Well it was a general question. But my specs below.

Asus P5Q Pro
E5200 @ 3.25Ghz
CF 4850's
2GB 6400 Corsair XMS
HX620

You shouldn't be seeing that message. Is this on XP? I think my older mobo needed special drivers to enable USB2, they were on the disk. Though I believe this wasn't a problem after a service pack or two.

Perhaps someone with an asus board can help...

Think yourself lucky! my front ports don't work at all since changing from a CM 330 case to the ocuk special solar eclipse, even the 2 on the fan controller which worked faultlessly in the old case.
