Hi. I have an all in one pc with 4 rear usb ports and two side ones. I've had a USB keyboard/mouse, bar code scanner and cash till connected to the rear ones. They've been working without problems for the last six months. Suddenly, a message popped up saying insufficient power and then all usb ports (side and rear) stopped working. Eventually, the USB ports started working after a system restore and connecting the cash till to the side port. The computer was replaced under warranty but the replacement is behaving exactly the same.

What could be going on?

what OS are you running?

under advanced power settings have you tried turning off the "USB selective suspend" setting and then rebooting the PC?

It's unlikely but just throwing this out there - it could be one of the peripherals is a bit faulty depending on how they are powered. I once had a GSM usb modem that was pulling slightly more power than the USB specification when it was transmitting which caused the pc to shut down the ports

I'm running Windows 10. The thing is everything was working fine for six months so why should this happen all of a sudden. I think Gammawolf has hit the nail on the head in that one of the devices has become faulty. It's under a three year warranty but the guy has been out four times in a week unable to solve the problem.
