Hi,

I have spent ages trying to resolve this problem on the internet and have now given up, but before I go ahead and buy a USB 2.0 Card I thought I would try here.

I have 2 computers both 478 socket and both with Intel USB controller that supports USB 2.0.

USB 2.0 is enable in the BIOS and on boot up there are 4 USB 1.0/1.1 Controllers and 1 USB 2.0 Controller listed.

One computer is on Win XP SP1 with the Intel 875P chipset Drivers installed and the other on Win XP SP2 using all standard WinXP drivers.

[Both computers are running latest windows updates etc and I have updated BIOS's and read through the Manuals for the motherboards]

On now on to the problem, when I plug is my new Camera to ANY of the USB ports, being the built in one or using one off the internal USB headers on the motherboard I get the following message:-

Picture 1

So from the above, WinXP on both of the computer knows I have USB 2 Hi Speed Ports, however for some reason I cannot plug anything into them.

Under Device Manager it shows:-

Device Manager

The first 4 USB Ports are presumably 1.0/1.1 and when I plug my Mouse in to all the USB ports, the mouse is detected here.

However there is also the USB2 Enhanced Controlled that supports 8 ports that windows has recongised but when ever I plug anything it it always appears and get listed under the lower speed ports. It like the USB 2.0 port are there but there is not physial way to connect to them....grrrr

If any one has any ideas it would be appreciated.

Cheers

try reinstalling the drivers for each of those hosy controllers in the device manager. installing sp1/sp2 alone doesnt give you usb2 - you still have to install the hardware drivers!

I've tried all that, I have been to the intel site for the USB controllers and there are no drivers to download as it points you to Windows and the Update Site, I have manually downloaded the Windows update for USB support/driver and re-installed.

Searching further I came across the intel chipset drivers and that included USB drivers and when I installed that the description under the device manager did change so i reckon the drivers are installed ok.

All I can put it down to is the fact that the ports were early in USB 2.0 being formed so someone messed it up on the motherboards. After going to the ABit forum (IC7 M/B) other have the same problem, where their USB 2.0 ports do not operate at hi speed.
