Hello people,
can any one please tell me how i can check that my USB sockets on my PC work OK.
As the front panel USB's on the PC case sometimes will not work with some hardware, ie USB Scanner, flash stick.
Though when i plug a device into the back USB's on my MoBo the device is reconginsed in windows (XP pro) and will then work !

Any ideas !!!

Many thanks

the front i suspect are USB 1.0 and the rear are USB 2.0, your mobo manual should be able to confirm that or not.

USB 2.0 has three speeds, USB 1.0 only has two.. USB 2.0 sockets will accept USB 1.0 devices but not the other way around.

Actually, 2.0 devices *will* work with 1.0 ports. I've tried this several times (with a USB stick and MP3 player onsomeone's old OEM built system).

Makesure they're attached to your motherboard properly.

Turn off your PC, take off your front USB from your mobo and power your PC back up. Turn your PC back off and firmly re-attach the front USB and power your PC back up. With any luck, that may solve your problem.
