I'm having some serious USB issues.

First off I kept getting recurring 'this device could not be recognised' popups which seems to have been solved by disabling one of the USB 2 port hubs in device manager (the 2 front ports I think), so far so good.

I've also been having problems with my keyboard/mouse. I have a some quite oldish logitech keyboard and a logitech MX mouse. They seem to randomly disconnect (mostly the KB) and require waiting/unplugging and plugging back in/pushing the connect button to get them back into life, just now none of those helped and I had to go find an old USB KB to use to type this.. is my keyboard dying (its a few years old) or does my computer have serious USB issues?

The USB device not recognised thing was happening every so often for a while now but got much worse recently but the keyboard disconnecting is from the last few days.

It's highly possible that you are having power issues, your PSU cannot supply enough power to your USB peripherals (hence the fix with the disabling USB ports). Perhaps your PSU is dying.

Obviously the other possibility is that your USB controller is dying, however that wouldn't explain that you are able to type with your current wired keyboard which won't draw that much power.

Alternatively, you have driver issues which is quite unlikely but worth considering.

(current KB is actually newer, wireless USB and battery powered btw)
Any tests I can run to determine if the PSU or usb controller are to blame?

I've unplugged everything USB related (except this different keyboard and my MX mouse). They KB is now connected to the usb ports at the back directly and the mouse is connected to different small 4 port usb hub via a small extension cable, and the 2 port hub is left disabled, so far it seems ok.

edit: spoke to soon, MX mouse just died. Also, just checked device manager and it still thinks that all the various hubs and peripherals I disconnected are still there, do I need a reboot for it to notice?
