Usb probs

ok dont know what section to put this in but when i plug my usn into the back of my pc and say actually touch my case with the usb plug my monitor flickers on and off now when i dont turn my external drive on and touch case its ok it only happens when my external is already powered on now ive never had this problem before as everyone knows when you fumble behind your pc to put a usb in you sometimes touch the case or other parts should i plug external in before powering on all the time thanks

You took the words right out of my head, I was just thing the same, although the power from USB is approx 1ma it's enough to cause a short.
