ok i may be posting in wrong section but checked others so hope its right one.
i have a toshiba smart tv and have been recording films on a usb drive directly plugged into the tv.

i would like if possible to back these films up to my computer hard drive, but when i plugged it into my computer and opened it it only shows numbers not the name of the film (seems to be in a ts format).
clicked play on the number and it comes up cant play something unsupported?.

im using windows 10 if that makes a difference, the reason i want to back them up is i have films not watched and the usb is getting full.
are there any easy programs to convert the files, tried avc and movavi as these seemed to be recomended but both come up with errors unsupported so stumped.

sorry the post is so long not completely computer literate ...

TVs record in their own file version. The outer wrapper may well be .ts, but what's inside isn't a file that any of the commercial or freeware programmes recognise.

The reason is copy protection. The film and TV programme rights holders don’t want people making bit-perfect copies of stuff just because a telly can record to USB. The major TV brands tow the line on this.

It goes further too. Some brands restrict file playback so it only works on the TV the recording was made on. This even goes so far as in effect locking it to the TV serial number. That means even if you have two of the same model TV that the USB drive can't be moved to the other set.

It looks like you're going to have to either watch those films or delete them to make space.
