USB Remote?

Hey All,

I want a remote control, the only thing it will be for is playing and pausing videos, because that is what requires me to get out of bed. Sometimes this isn't an issue at all, but it can be a bit of a mood killer.

A shutdown button would be helpful too actually...

If I got this, then would I be able to do these three things? I play music in Winamp, video in VLC.

If there is a cheaper option I'd love to hear it though.

Just a beware note

Some remote controls use the same codes as other equipment
eg my hauppage remote for my tv card also switches stuff on my TV

Iam currently thinking about getting a bluetooth remote to work around this

USB wireless keyboard. Ok a little more chunky than a remote but then you can do other stuff like surf easily as well.

Can be had for about £20 for something half decent

what phone do you have? Both iPhones and Android have apps that will do this, the best for android being Unified Remote:

works flawlessly and has a trackpad/keyboard too.

No TV here to contend with, in fact no other devices with remotes.

I have a USB keyboard, but would rather have something a bit more elegant. Plus I can't use the media buttons on this keyboard, because the software for it causes lock ups. Or did do a few months back, I gave up trying after 3 versions of the software did it.

Galaxy S here, will look into that, thanks.

EDIT: Won't work unfortunately. I am in student halls and get network access wirelessly to my room, and can only have 1 device connected at any one time.
