USB SPEED

hi all

I have a pc thats between 2 and 4 years old how can i check if its got usb 1 usb 1.1 or usb 2

Plug a usb 2 device in and see if it says the device can run faster

thanks gangster, but only tells me if its not usb2, i still wont know if its usb1 or usb1.1

i suppose you can search the pc up? but cant you go on " my computer " then system info?

i already tried the system info.....i couldnt find anything there. i didnt understand your first suggestion what do mean search the pc up

USB 1.1 was just a driver update in win 98 I think, hence any op system after 98 will be 1.1.

To check:

Go in to device manager and expand USB controllers, If you see the word 'Enhanced' anywhere you have USB 2.

i got that off the net saying the word enhanced is the key to usb 2 . i have another old machine which has usb 1 because if you plug in a usb device it tells me it would run faster on usb 2, yet this machine has the word enhanced in the usb controler.

i thought it got it sussed until i checed the really old machine, so im now even more confused.

Search the model number for the pc? e.g if it was a dell and the model number was 3100
search dell 3100

well done chopper u put me on the right track, i didnt have a model number for this machine as it was not a big brand product, but you made me think. so i opened up sys and did internet search on the motherboard, dont why i didnt think of that in first place..............u got my tiny brain in grear cheers
