hi all, im wondering if its possible to run a firewire device from a usb port?

im aware that usb is slower than firewire but i would like to be able to use my laptop with no firewire. there is no space for expansion slots.

what is the pin config like? even if i have to make up a lead to make it work?

thanks in advance :)

Most laptops have either a pcmia slot or a pci-e slot in the side of the case.Yours have neither?
If it does it is just a matter of getting the right card and plugging it in :)

You can't just make a lead to make it work with USB, the interface electronics are completely different and the voltages are also higher on firewire. If the device you are trying to connect is a DV video source then you can get a USB to firewire cable that has some electronics built in but it's for the transfer of DV video only and not other firewire devices.
