Bought one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310353150663?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648
for my Cisco equipment as my PC doesn't have a serial port.

It shows as device not recognised on the front USB ports and the back ones,

If you are encountering yellow mark (Error Code 10) for device in Device Manager under Windows 7, you need to contact the cable vendor or manufacturer for possible counterfeit chip.
Sigh... been waiting all week and can't get it to work.

SO! Anyone bought one what they have got to work or any ideas on how to fix this? I've tried unplugging it, uninstalling, restarting, installing but no luck..

Costs £12, ouch.. Well I got one driver to show as working on parents PC.. trying to get the same result on mine. Though now its just showing us a unkown device.

Will try that now.. Just tried on parents PC and can use console cable to access switch fine, there PC is 32 bit and mine is 64, so possibly why the same driver isn't working on both.

EDIT: Drivers from aten site not working either -.-

USB > Serial are the DEVIL. Most do not work properly even when fully installed.

I could never get a USB > Serial working for Cisco config. Although some peers told me some models work better than others at the task!

Yup :)

I have an old PC kicking around with a native serial port I use on the rare occasions I need one.

Try some more with the drivers, I think I find one that worked for one on some random german site. Don't have a link sorry but I went through about 5 or 6 different driver downloads before I got one which installed properly. It might end up cheaper and easier to just use a proper PCI based I/O expansion card.

Tried about 10! Fed up of restarted now...

Found a PCI card from a local competitor I can pick up for around £15.. I was thinking of trying on a virtual machine... Not sure how I'm going to be working anyway on the equipment. I imagine I'll be plugging my PC into a switch and just telnetting into everything once it's initally configured.

Though I'll lose internet access, unless I can use my wi-fi adaptor as well... hmm
