I got this:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-075-LT
but I'm having problems with it
Initially it worked, now it doesn't and I can't get it to work on two different PC's. I don't think it's faulty - just that there is a driver / compatibilty issue somewhere.
First Test
I had a new Dell C152. Straight out of the box I let it do it's post install stuff and once configured I plugged in and installed the TV dongle.
This worked great - I got many channels, the remote worked, everything!
Update XP, install essential apps remove guff
Next I updated XP so that it was fully patched. I installed SPF, AVG, Defender, K Lite Codecs - plus other standard install stuff I use. I removed some of the Dell 'freebies's and considered the PC to be up for use.
But the TV Tuner would now not work. When running WinFast TVR I would get this error:
DVBTAP.EXE error with NTDLL.DLL
Googling found suggestions such as downloading latest DVB driver and WinFast app from Leadtek but that did not work.
Other suggestions were to use a different TVR/PVR but they just come up with no device type errors - besides the standard configs do not list the Leadtek device.
Next I tried uninstalling and installing but this is not easy to do. There are a whole load of things left in the registry even after uninstalling and removing the device.
I manually removed as much as I could and then re run the install.
Now when I run WinFast I get a stop message saying DirectX required.
DirectX is installed and updated to the latest version!
Other PC
I tried on a different PC and got exactly the same problem.
After the PC is fully patched I get the DVBTAP.EXR / NTDLL.DLL error.
If I manually uninstall and reinstall I get the DirectX error.
Clues
Googling some messages from around December 2006 shows that other users of different cards are also having the NTDLL.DLL error.
It's as if a Microsoft update from around that date, or the installation of something like Media Player 11, Codecs, or something else is causing NTDLL.DLL to fail.
What next?
What do I do now? Should I waste more cash on a different brand of USB Tuner or will I get the same problem?
I don't think it's worth contacting Leadtek support yet as they'll just say send the bug report and machine setup printout and do nothing I guess!
The only thing I can think of is to reinstall windows and install updates / apps one by one until I find which procedure breaks the Tuner!
