Following from this thread about the older type c design
So the final design of USB type c has been announced ready for production. Main feature is that it's reversible, much like apple's device connector except it will probably be much more widely adopted. Also interestingly, seems they will be making type c extension cables with current type a/b adaptors bundled which is good news for current motherboard users!

Similar size to current USB 2 ports
Small device adoption may take longer (phones, tablets etc)

Looks quite good, no more messing around at the back of your case trying to plug in a USB cable so much, now it will be reversible!

What I'm most interested in is having 1 universal plug for laptops/tablets/phones... and being able to deliver 100w over it means you should be able to use a USB to also charge your laptop.

Now Apple, take this into god damn consideration you money grabbing scumbags

+1

The first time a tried to plug a USB 1 connector in to PC back in 1996? or 1997? the first thing I said to the other chaps in IT was "you would have thought this would be reversible!" And it only taken USB-IF 18 years to catch up.

IT WAS SO OBVIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!

too 100w power with USB 3.1 is pretty awesome. One cable to rule them all!
