I'm getting BT fibre activated next Tuesday and am after a new USB WI-FI adapter. Currently I'm using http://www.edimax.co.uk/en/produce_detail.php?pd_id=8&pl1_id=1&pl2_id=44.

I'm guessing I need a new one with Wireless N to get the best out of the new connection. Alternatively I can use powerline adapters and run a cable to my PC.

What would you recommend to use? Router will be in living room and my PC is in our "playroom".

Thanks

I've got an 80/20 FTTC connection, If you can, try running an ethernet cable

I used to run using a pair of Netgear 200Mb/s homeplug adapters, but noticed that it seems to top out at 50 odd Mb/s (although that is probably down to the poor state of electrical wiring in the house)

Wifi around our area is a little too unstable due to the number of poorly configured wireless networks/ Video senders etc..

My preference for networking is:

Ethernet Cable > Powerline > Wifi

I would recommend going for 5GHz if you can. Far less congested than 2.4GHz. I use a 5Ghz wireless bridge on my 40/10 Sky Fibre and can pull 4.4MB on torrents without issue.

You could look for a 5GHz PCI wifi card, perhaps with 2 aerials. May give better performance than its USB counterpart.

Powerlines in theory should be better, but its purely down to the wiring in your house.

thanks for replies. I already have powerline adapters so I think I'll try them first and compare speeds I get through that and direct connection to router and then take it from there.
