USB wireless adapters and USB 1.0?

Hi

will USB wireless adapters work on USB 1.0 ports?
i have an older laptop here and it will not recognise the wireless adapter at all when you plug it in

i think they are USB 1.0 ports because when I plug a USB memory drive in it says it's not working at full speed. (how can i check what speed they are?)

Will be 1.0 or 1.1, adaptors will work fine just the speed will be limited

i.e. a 54mbps adaptor will be limited to 11mbps

Some laptops (particularly older ones) have a habit of sharing power among the USB ports. If whatever you're plugging in is near the 500mA limit, then it may not work, no matter what USB speed you have. In that case, the solution is a powered USB hub.
