USB Zip

Hi all,

Unfortunately I am trying to install Puppy linux on a pc with an older motherboard.

Only boot options are USB-FDD, USB-ZIP and USB-CD

I hear zip is the best to go for, however I understand I have to set up the usb stick a special way for it to boot, i did try creating in normally with usb creator but it did not boot sadly. I know you have to change the set up of the usb, anyone recommend any tools or guides to do this?

Been looking around today and not getting anywhere fast !
I should mention the pc in question is driveless.

That would be for a ZIP drive I think.

It is for a zip drive,

But you can customize a usb stick to trick the mobo into thinking its a zip, the geometry needs to be set up right however!

Fish out of water here. Whenever I encounter a system that won't boot from stick I use an external ODD instead.

I was considering this as I have a hdd docking station that connects via usb, but I thought that would not work any better than the usb, I also would have to shift some data around to find a spare drive!

However I have been reading through your link and one of the guides the usb partition tool gives you the option to format to usb zip mode! and some other options.

So thank you very much for the help, I will have a try of it tomorrow ! My sources where telling me what to do but not what tools to use if that makes sense!
