Even though I have installed service pack 2 for windows XP, my machine isn't detecting my usb 2 slot for what they are. I remember I needed a file called usb20.sys or something like that. Does anybody know it's name? :(

sounds a bit like what happened to me. service pack didnt do anything, but the usb drivers installed fine manually from device manager (by letting it search the net for latest drivers).

I can see the file it wants, it's called usbhub20.sys. However, even if I direct the update driver utility to the folder it is in - it keeps ignoring it!! GARGGHHH!!!

Hope I can help a bit, though maybe not.

When you say it keeps ignoring it, does it say why it ignores it? I don't know if you've already checked it but does your device already have some kind of driver? Perhaps it thinks the usbhub20.sys is older than the current driver?

I've just run a search on my XP SP2 install and I don't have a usbhub20.sys. I do have a usbhub.sys on my PC. Perhaps you could try copying the usbhub20.sys off the CD and into some folder and renaming it to usbhub.sys and then pointing the utility to that? See if renaming it works.

I could give you my usbhub.sys over MSN if you want? Don't know if that would help in any way. Just to check, have you googled for this problem at all? I googled usbhub20.sys but didn't get anything that looked relevant.

I have googled lots and lots and most of the solutions offered were like those that were on this page. But my computer is being a massive pain in the bottom. The usbhub.sys file is for some reason a younger and higher version of file than usbhub20.sys.

Would that be possible to yoink it over msn please?

try your motherboard manufacturers' website see if they got any new drivers there if not check see if they got a forum and see if there's any posts relating to the issue
