Hey all, I have a problem with an external hdd I could use some help with.

I have a Samsung M3 1TB USB 3.0 that will work fine in a non usb3 port, but as soon as I plug it into a usb3 port it will not always show up, or when it does I cannot access it, and it will often dissapear.

I have a MAXIMUS VII HERO mobo, and have been to ther Asus website and installed the latest drivers (Intel USB 3.0 Driver V3.0.1.41 for Windows Win7 32bit & Win7 64bit) but I am still having problems.

I have no little yellow exclamation marks in device manager, so Im not sure what to try next.

Any ideas??

Might seem daft as it works on usb2 ports but if you go into computer management and drive management, does the drive/partitions show at all?

If it's showing in My Computer it will appear in disk management.
Today I managed to copy one file to the drive before it dissapeared and an error message popped up:

Error 0x80070037: The specific network device or resource is no longer available

do you have the Samsung drive manager software installed? Had the same issue with my drive but it worked after swapping the cable and retrying the connection a couple of times.
Seems ok now.

Is the USB port supplying it with enough power?

I had similar with an M3 1Tb, wouldn't work at all, plugged it in via a powered USB hub, worked fine. Annoying, but it's only for backing stuff up so it's not plugged in all the time.

Have you tried plugging the drive into rear USB 3 ports and see if it works fine? I find front panel USB ports on some PCs didn't supply enough power for certain drives.
I also had identical problems with an Hitachi Touro and the problem was down to the supplied USB 3 cable. I bought a new USB 3 Y cable, expecting to supply it extra power from a second port, but in the end it worked fine with one USB 3 plugged in.

Quick update:

Tried plugging into the rear port on my PC and have manged to transfer 3 large files:)

Looks like it was the power issue as mentioned, so with a longer usb 3 lead I should be sorted.

Cheers for the replies everyone:)
