Having a bit of a problem finding a 2m USB3 cable for a HDD Dock that I bought..

This is the cable I am looking for:

This cable is 1m long it came with the product but I would like a 2m and the best I can find is a 1.5m from the bay

The image below is the product I need the cable for that I bought from a competitor and I have tried asking on their forums and it is creating a lot of confusion it seems so I was hoping to find help on here :)

That's easier, I have ordered a 2m extension cable (USB3), however this does mean that I will only ever own 1 cable of this exact type, I do have some spare USB2 cables that have the same fit..

Including this one which I have had to throw out :(

the thing is I'm not convinced the cable in your first picture is actually a USB 3.0 lead. its blue and the computer end is USB 3.0, however the device in is a 5pin USB 2.0 type connector. I cant see how they can get all that USB 3 goodness in that connector.

the 2 micro USB types designed for USB 3.0 are totally different.

but it my be propriety I suppose

The mini connector in your picture looks to have pins at the both top and bottom, so it's a "USB3 A to Mini-B" connector. You're right that most of the cables on eBay look to be 1.5m and below, but sale no. 190958088606 is a 5m version. (I have no connection to the seller, or any idea if he's legit, just the first thing a quick search showed up.)

There was something said on the other forum about USB3 needing more power but the dock does have a mains adapter which could provide this extra power, also the cable does have a thicker wire that may not be apparent from looking at the picture

I am not sure for USB 3.0 but the reason many devices have MiniUSB (talking 2.0) is they need it to act as a HOST, full sized USB 2.0 does not offer this function.

Used to get it all the time with peeps asking why the smaller Media Players like SumVision Micro's use mini USB not full sized and answer was on their website.

Does anyone know what kind of transfer speed I should expect with a docked SATA drive running on USB3? I think this would be the best way to test if it really is USB3 I am running on

I'm not sure if the drives I have to dock are SATA I II or III so I will need average speeds for all 3 so I can test fairly, also does it make a difference that the drive is running externally to the system or should I expect the same speeds as an internal when running USB3?

Well if it get past real world speed of 35MB/s its running USB 3.0 as USB 2.0 host will be not much higher than that before overheads.

My External 3USB .0 drive hits its max of 120+MB/s (the Mech HDD inside Max speed).
