anyone know where I can purchase a front panel USB3 panel (like the one ASUS supply with the deluxe p67 boards.

Just need to be able to plug in my usb3 key to the front of PC - do not want to crawl around the back under the desk every time I want to back up docs etc (and please don't suggest I use a usb2 port - I bought the USB3 key for the speed :) )

Sorry didn't know that, link removed

I am glad you removed, thanks for being helpful but please don't get yourself into trouble :)

I actually didn't phrase my question properly, I think what I meant to ask is does anyone know under what category I could find some USB3 header panels :)

Being a noob to all things usb3, what's the difference between usb2/3 sockets? Are they physically different?

Physically they look the same, except they are coloured blue. they also have two extra pins that are capable of carrying extra power for USB3 enabled devices.

USB3 is however much much faster.

USB3 5Gbps
USB2 480Mbps
USB1.1 12Mbps
USB1.0 1.5Mbps

USB3 ports can support anything older, so 3/2/1.1/1.0
USB2 ports can support 2/1.1/1.0

Is USB3 comparable or faster than firewire then? I haven't used firewire since editing on macs years ago

Here is a more complete table of all the interfaces and speeds.

•USB 1.1 = 12 Mbit/s
•Firefire 400 = 400 Mbit/s
•USB 2.0 = 480 Mbit/s
•FireWire 800 = 800 Mbit/s
•USB 3.0 = 5 Gbit/s
•eSATA = Up to 6 Gbit/s right now as it depends on the internal SATA chip.
