I have to confess that I hadnt even heard of this until i just stumbled across an article on the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/technology/newsid_8568000/8568084.stm

For the past 10 years USB2 has been the most popular way of connecting external devices, such as digital cameras and hard drives, to computers.

Now USB3 hardware is starting to appear on the market.

I suppose you guys all knew about this ? lol

A quick search of the forum would suggest that indeed we have. It has yet to take a full hold of the market though.

There are a few motherboards already out with it as far as I can tell. Haven't seen many devices though.

Same with hard drives with SATA III technology and the motherboards required.

tbh, what do you need usb3 for that usb2 wont do as well... hard drives, right? so why wouldnt anyone getting a pc capable of usb3 just use eSata for external hard drives instead with it being that much better.

I'm not sure there are that many little flash drives that are eSATA. Plus not all motherboards still offer eSATA bizarrely enough. Flash drives are getting pretty big as well. I've seen some 64GB ones that on USB2 speeds would take far too long.

I'd have thought digital cameras and camcorders will make good use of USB3.
