An ongoing irritant I have will my system is that some of the USB ports seem to work intermittently, and when I restart the system, will only work when I pull out the device and plug it in again. Others work fine.

Do people know if this is a known USB issue, or could it be a mobo problem?

To be honest it could be a variaty of things, have you tried a different PSU in your system? Could be a lack of power going to the USB ports. If thats not the problem then I would say it was the motherboard

I haven't tried a different PSU, but everything else works and 600W should handle it no problem. I wonder if there is a voltage tweak required somewhere.

If it is the mobo - it's fairly academic as I will be replace in September.

If your using vista, with some systems including mine has usb trouble. Mainly with external hdd amd pen drives. Do a search on the net, its a common problem with vista..

I've reinstalled the USB drivers to no avail (catch 22 that - you uninstall the drivers, restart and guess what - can't use the keyboard or mouse to finish the install!! - DOH. Had to dig out an old PS2 keyboard).

So it could be the PSU. Any way of stopping it undervolting?

Take it out the system and replace it with a new one?

Seriously though, a new PSU or removing any "extra" bits in your system like if you have 2 DVD drives or something is the only real way to cure the problem of a PSU that is undervolting.
