Use either PCIe Slot?

As title really, can I use either PCIe 16x slot on my Abit IN9-32X MAX?

I currently have my 8800 in the top slot, nearest the CPU, but was wondering if I can install it at the bottom?

IMO this should allow for better CPU temps as the heat from the 8800 should have more space to disperse before it reaches the CPU if it was in the bottom slot.

So, is it okay to install it in the bottom, or does it have to be installed in the top? Would it affect performance in any way?

Cheers for any advice

I guess because it is a 32x mobo, both PCI-E lanes run at 16x so there is no reason to restrict board positions. On 16x mobos you should only use the first slot closest the CPU. Try it and see.

As long as they are both PCI-E x16 slots it shouldnt lose any performance, but as BillyTheImpaler says, the mobo may not like it. Some mobo's second slot is only an x8.
